General Meeting May 2025: two days of collaboration, iInnovation, and shared vision

On May 27–28, 2025, the BIOSAFIRE consortium gathered in person for our General Meeting, hosted by project partner RYMATEX. It was a key milestone in the project, bringing together all partners for two full days of updates, strategic planning, and collaborative energy.

Day 1 – Wednesday, May 27th

The first day kicked off with excitement as partners reunited face-to-face. The agenda was packed with essential topics that reflect the project’s ambition and momentum:

  • Project management and deliverables
  • Optimization of the BIOSAFIRE process
  • Application portfolio and compatibility analysis
  • Implementation of the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework
  • Data management and decision support tools
  • Risk management updates

Alongside the technical sessions, participants had the opportunity to connect informally during coffee breaks and a guided site visit of RYMATEX’s facilities. The day concluded with a consortium dinner—an excellent moment to strengthen relationships and celebrate shared progress.

Day 2 – Thursday, May 28th

The second day was equally dynamic, featuring interactive sessions focused on shaping the next phases of BIOSAFIRE. The open and constructive discussions helped align priorities and highlighted the commitment of each partner to our common goals.

Looking Ahead

More than just a project meeting, these two days served as a powerful reminder of what collaboration can achieve. We leave the meeting inspired and united, ready to accelerate our work towards safe, sustainable, and innovative solutions.

A heartfelt thank you to all participants for your engagement, insights, and dedication.

What is BIOSAFIRE all about?

BIOSAFIRE will develop and upscale innovative products upgrading nature’s best fire retardants (FRs): lignins and tannins. To ensure that these novel products are safe and sustainable, while retaining their desired technological functionality, they will be thoroughly assessed by applying the SSbD framework at different stages of their development and the results will be iteratively fed into the further design and optimisation of the technologies. Involving the full material value chain, these flame retardants will be upscaled to TRL7 and demonstrated in five different applications.

Excited for the journey ahead and the positive impact we’ll create together!
