VERTORO
Urmonderbaan 22, 6167 RD, Geleen, Netherlands
Vertoro is a pioneering chemical startup committed to accelerating the green transition by offering a bio-based alternative to fossil resources. At the heart of its innovation is Goldilocks®, a sustainable, lignin-based product designed to replace fossil crude oil as a platform for materials, chemicals, and fuels.
Founded in 2017, Vertoro emerged from a public-private partnership involving the Brightlands Chemelot Campus, DSM, Chemelot InSciTe, Maastricht University (UM), and Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). The company was initiated by CEO Michael Boot and CTO Panos Kouris.
Backed by both capital investment and academic institutions, Vertoro has developed a proprietary and scalable technology that transforms woody and agricultural residues into a versatile range of bio-based products. The process operates at Technology Readiness Level 6 (TRL 6) and has demonstrated robust performance using diverse input materials.
What distinguishes Vertoro:
- A validated, scalable production platform adaptable to various feedstocks and outputs.
- Strong interest from global players across oil, shipping, and chemical industries.
- A multidisciplinary team combining deep scientific knowledge with commercial acumen.
- A clear path to becoming one of the world’s leading producers of lignin-based solutions.
Vertoro invites partners to join in delivering radical, cost-effective alternatives to fossil fuels and in achieving ambitious sustainability targets. The shift to a greener future is already underway.
